The Peruvian Paso or the Iberian Horse
Costa Rica horseback riding is sheer pleasure for mixed ability riders, both from the perspective of the lush verdant countryside and the quality of the horses. For the experienced rider there is the Paso horse which comes originally from Andalusian stock which was later bred with Criollo horses and the Peruvian Paso Fino – resulting in a lively horse with gaited action. Most of the horses found living at the Hacienda Pozo Azul, however, belong to the docile strength of the Iberian horse which has been bred from the Costa Rica Paso horse and the original Andalusian horse brought over from the Spanish mainland. The Iberian horse is ideal for all abilities and sizes of riders.
